REPAIRING AND RESTORING TIMBER FLOORING
REPAIRS AND RESTORATION: Hardwood floors are a natural product which often require repairs or restoration, caused by a number of problems
and issues including;
The removal of a wall
Cupping or crowning of boards
Excessive wear or scratches
Gaps between boards and parquet
Broken, damaged or loose boards and parquetry
Removal of a fireplace or fixed structure
POLISH AND RE COATING: When beginning to show signs of wear it may be possible to repair your floor by a simply polish and re coat. This process removes the surface scratches and provides a new coat of finish providing durability and restoring the original look of your floor. I will always recommend re coating as a maintenance procedure within the first few years of completing the initial coating process. It is important to re coat with the same product used to finish your floors. I retain a record of the coating systems used in clients homes to refer to when needed.
FLOOR SANDING AND FINISHING: Old floors will often require complete sanding and refinishing. This process should only be carried out by an experienced professional. During the process, many stages of sanding and polishing will be carried out to provide a smooth and flat surface. Between different stages of sanding I punch and fill nails and cracks which will remove creaks and hide blemishes. When the sanding and polishing is completed, I will apply a durable coating to the floor that will provide years of lasting protection.
BOARD REPAIRS: Whether you have an old or new floor, It may be necessary for me to remove and replace one or more damaged floor boards or parquetry pieces. I may need to replace larger areas after an old fireplace or wall is removed? Regardless of the size of the repair, I will always aim to use recycled or new products to match the existing Floor. I often come across floors that have been repaired by amateurs, if a repair is carried out professionally and carefully the result is impressive.
FLOOR REMOVAL: I am regularly asked to remove old floor coverings such as carpet, vinyl and cork. In extreme cases I will be required to remove a wood floor that has been destroyed by either moisture or poor installation. If necessary, I will remove and recycle the old floor and begin to repair the problem that has caused the floor to fail. In todays market there are products that can be used to rectify problems and allow a new floor to be installed correctly and professionally.
I USE HIGH POWERED floor sanding machinery from various manufacturers which are chosen based on their performance and reliability, not only in producing the best result on hardwood, but also in relation to dust control. The system I have been developing since beginning in the trade, will remove virtually all airborne dust in comparison to traditional methods and machinery. The need to cover and seal all your household items and valuables during the sanding process is generally not necessary.
MODERN MACHINERY AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE will have your restored hardwood floor looking amazing for years to come. Be sure to maintain your floor, and if necessary, I will be able suggest my easy to use floor maintenance kits.
Sincerely, Matt Wilson.
